The making of quilts and rag-rugs, once common throughout the British Isles, virtually disappeared in the last century from all areas except the north country. In the last few decades there has been a strong revival of these traditional crafts using modern materials and new techniques to produce stunning art forms.

The module also highlighted the range and variety of craft activities carried out by lone traders and cooperatives which are so important to the tourist economy of the
North Pennines today.
