Some of Your Questions Answered

What Should I Expect?

The training programme will consist of a balance of talks and fieldwork.   Each session will last a full day and be based on one theme or topic.   Sessions will take place at venues all around the North Pennines.  There will be opportunities for networking and discussion with others who are involved in various aspects of tourism.  Each day will be led by guest tutors who specialise in the particular topics being considered. There may be extra evening sessions to view hay meadows, archaeology etc.

Transport for fieldwork will sometimes be provided free of charge.  For some field trips we will ask you to provide your own transport or car share. Course notes and folders will be provided to help you build up a useful resource.  Refreshments of tea & coffee will be provided free of charge and lunches will usually be “bring & share” buffets or we may ask you to bring your own packed lunch or we may provide lunch for which a small contribution will be sought.

Do I Need Any Particular Qualifications To Be Able To Take Part?

Definitely not – this training programme is open to anyone whose professional or voluntary daily life brings them into contact with visitors to the area.

Where and When Will the Study be Held?

All the study days will be held in various parts of the North Pennines. The sessions will take place on the second Wednesday of the month. The first session will be on *************** and the topic for that day will be ****************.

What Do I Need to Bring?

Warm, weatherproof clothing and strong footwear, and a notebook for making field notes.  Bring other items e.g. a camera if you wish (at owner’s risk).

What About Travelling to Venues?

We are aware that some people may need lifts to venues so we ask for your permission to share contact details.

What About Bad Weather?

On the first day we propose setting up an e-mail contact list to operate in case of bad weather.

What Do I Do If I Cannot Attend Every Session?

Students will gain most benefit from the training programme if they attend all the training days. To gain the quality mark and accreditation you will need to attend 70% of the whole programme (or 7 of the 10 sessions over the two years). We are aware that there may be some unavoidable absences and ask that you contact the Project Co-ordinator, who will endeavour to pass on materials to you.

What Are The Costs?

The cost for 2010/2011 was £60.

How Do I Pay?

You will be invoiced when the Pennine Horizons Steering Group has assessed your application and you have been offered a place on the course.
