What Is Know Your North Pennines?

“Know Your North Pennines” is a ground-breaking training programme for people who live and work in the North Pennines.

The programme celebrates everything that makes the North Pennines special, including the area’s geology, heritage, culture and natural history.

“Know Your North Pennines” is for anyone who works with visitors to the area, whether in hospitality and the service industry, tourist information centres, visitor attractions or as guides.

This innovative training programme was designed by Pennine Horizons, an informal cluster of local businesses, and the University of Sunderland to raise the cultural awareness of this region, its visitor attractions, its heritage and natural history.  It is supported by the Centre of Vocational Excellence at Northumberland College.

"Know Your North Pennines" businesses are shortlisted for the 2008 Regional Tourism Awards !!

One North East has announced the shortlisted finalists for this year's prestigious Regional Tourism Awards.   Certain of an award are three "Know Your North Pennines" businesses.   Emma Wilson and Chris Tarpey at East Briscoe Farm Cottages are up for an award in the category of "Sustainable Tourism", the "Self Catering Holiday of the Year" includes Verona and Mike Woodhouse's flat at Station House Catton, and Killhope is competing in the "Small Visitor Attraction of the Year" category.   Congratulations to all three, and let's hope all scoop gold!
